SILVERFISH ELIMINATION

Silverfish thrive in humid conditions, thus the first step to silverfish elimination is to rid yourself of any humid or damp circumstances and surroundings. This means that you should use dehumidifiers in the rooms that are damp, and of course immediately stop all sources of leaks, be it leaky pipes, roof leaks, or windows that are not properly sealed. If you have poorly ventilated areas too, you’ll need to ventilate them to stop the dampness from forming.

Silverfish eat glue and other starchy things, thus they truly love wallpaper paste and books that have glue in them and they also love textiles and photo albums too. If you have shirts and such that have been starched, the chances are very good that if you have silverfish, they will have feasted on the material. In addition keep all starchy foods, sugars as well as proteins such as cereal in tightly sealed containers such as plastic food containers, or perhaps keep them within your refrigerator.

Vacuuming all cracks and crevices where they may be hiding is also a good idea. You will also wish to close up any points of entry, such as around pipes and such in your home. In addition make sure that your closets are not damp either, as silverfish will also eat clothing.

There are poisoned bait cards sold that attract the silverfish to eat the bait and subsequently they will perish. Or you might consider insecticides for silverfish elimination. These come in a myriad of different kinds, including bombs that can be set, various sprays, and extermination dust as well. The easiest route is of course to call a professional exterminator, but that is usually more costly and will require a number of visits, and of course you will still have to rid yourself of any dampness.
